Foods
Lunchtime is a great time to catch up with your friends, review those
math notes, or just unwind from a busy morning of classes. Make the most
of it by packing (or buying) delicious and nutritious school lunches.
- Get in the habit of packing (or helping your guardian pack) your lunch
the night before. It saves time in the morning (when you're probably
running around looking for matching socks!) and allows more time to
plan meals.
- Tired of turkey? Peanut butter and jelly passe? Try spreading veggie
cream cheese on whole wheat bread and topping with sliced carrots, cucumbers
or tomatoes. Hummus, a zesty Middle Eastern spread, is great on pita
bread with sliced carrots or sprouts.
- Knock out soda from your routine. Try juice, water, or one of those
cool, new yogurt shakes instead.
Fashion/Fads
Scoped out the hottest back-to-school fashions? Of course you have! Now
express yourself and make your own fashion statement.
- Snaz up that plain white T-shirt. Got a pet or a favorite photo of
you and your best buds? For a small fee, some copy shops will enlarge
and transfer it onto your plain white T, making a definite one-of-a-kind.
Or, check out the second hand shops for a cool button down shirt to
layer over your T.
- If you have to wear a uniform to school, how about adding a cool pair
of earrings or a funky necklace to let your style show through?
- Pick out your favorite fall nail color and host a manicure slumber
party with the girls.
Focus
Let's face it
the most important reason for being in school is learning,
so take advantage of it and get focused on studying!
- Organize, organize, organize! Set up a specific area for your studying
time. Make sure it's well stocked with pens, pencils, paper, and whatever
else you might need. Make sure it's NOT near a phone
you can catch
up on the school gossip later!
- Get in the habit of completing your homework at the same time, but
make sure to give yourself a mental break after school. Have a snack,
play outside, or do some pleasure reading to clear your mind for a bit.
Then you'll be more refreshed and ready to work!
- Set up a homework calendar and color code your assignments. Use blue
for homework, pink for tests, and yellow for reports. You'll have a
great visual reminder and an easy time keeping track of your work.
Friends
Okay, hanging out with your buds is the coolest part of school, so get
involved with after school activities, and who knows
you'll probably
make new ones!
- How about joining a sports team? Soccer, basketball, softball-pick
something you like and go for it. It's a great way to have fun and get
exercise.
- Why not check out a school club? Or better yet, start your own with
something you're really interested in. The possibilities are endless!
