Exercise To Relieve Stress!
|
The goal of this exercise is to understand how exercise is a healthy
alternative to drug use to relieve stress.
- Begin by explaining to your students that:
- exercise increases the flow of oxygen through the lungs,
causing the heart to pump harder, increasing the flow of oxygen
to the brain, muscles, skin and other organs
- the increased flow of oxygen through the body combined with
weight/resistance training leads to positive changes in the
body that are noticable very quickly
- everyone's body will respond to this combination
- Ask your students to name different kinds of exercise.
- Assign your students to write a report and prepare a presentation
for the class on one form of exercise that he or she is interested
in. The report and presentation should contain the following details:
- a description of the physical benefits derived from this
type of exercise
- place that people can go locally to participate in this
type of exercise
- details about someone who excels in this form of exercise
locally, nationally, or internally
- Assign students to do research the negative affects of steroids
and other drugs on athletic performance on Prevlink. Lead them
in a discussion of their findings. Remind them about your schools
rules about performance enhancing drugs and supplements as well
as alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use.
