Environmental Change
The goal of this exercise is to help your students understand
individuals have the power to create change in their environments and
have a voice in a democratic government.
- Ask your students to identify issues related to drug
use that affect their family, school or community. Facilitate a discussion
on these issues and have your students share their opinions. As your
students to identify persons who may have an influence on the issue
and the role of each in solving the situation.
- Assign your students to write a letter to someone
of authority (govenor, mayor, senator, congress, city council, principal),
expressing their concern about an identified alcohol, tobacco, or other
drug problem and suggesting a solution.
- Faciliate a brainstorm with your students of things
they could do as individuals or in groups to help to solve the problems
they identified.
