Designing Prevention Cartoons

The goal of this exercise is to identify and communicate the benefits
of being drug-free.
Materials needed: construction or poster paper, paints, crayons, markers,
scissors, clear contact paper
- Start out this exercise by reviewing the concepts and techniques of
designing cartoons with your class.
- Have your students explore the Prevlink web site (especially "The
Right Stuff" section) to uncover fun activities and "positive
statements" that would be made difficult or impossible under the
influence of drugs.
- Assign your students to select a favorite activity or "positive
statement" that could be turned into a cartoon.
- Assign your students to select a theme and sketch at least two different
cartoons to communicate that theme. Review each students work before
giving them your approval to produce their bookmark, book cover, place
mat, postcard or poster. You might want to cover completed projects,
such as bookmarks, with clear contact paper to make them more durable!
- Display your student's work in a display case to share with the rest
of the school!
